Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric sleeve surgery is the most popular weight loss procedure. By using restriction only, up to 85% of the stomach is removed entirely. The gastric sleeve is so mainstream because of its high success rates combined with one of the lowest complication rates compared to other bariatric procedures.
The new stomach helps patients feel satisfied from small portions while also needing fewer meals throughout the day.
One benefit to gastric sleeve is that there are no changes to the anatomy. It also can be easily revised in the off-chance of it not being as successful as planned.
Patients lose on average 65% or more of excess weight within the first year after their gastric sleeve surgery!
GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY
Gastric bypass surgery utilises both removing a portion of the stomach and rerouting the intestines to create powerful, long-term weight loss. First, the surgeon reduces the stomach to a small pouch. Then, a significant portion of the small intestine is bypassed using two connections.
With gastric bypass surgery, the patient will have a new stomach about the size of a walnut. This holds about one to two ounces of food at the most.
Patients lose on average 72% of excess weight loss within the first year!
MINI GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY
Mini gastric bypass surgery is similar to the normal gastric bypass besides one main factor. Instead of rerouting two parts of the small intestines, the mini bypass only reroutes one.
First, the mini gastric bypass creates a new, small sleeve-shaped pouch. A portion of the intestine get’s “reconnected” one time to provide malabsorption along with restriction.
Patients can expect to lose up to 73% of excess weight loss within the first year!
